What products are allowed?

What products are NOT allowed?

Fiber-based products (ALLOWED)

These are made from plant fibers, physically pressed or molded.

Examples:

  • Paper

  • Sugarcane fiber (bagasse)

  • Bamboo

  • Wood

  • Palm leaf

How they’re made:

  • Plants are broken down into fibers

  • Fibers are pressed into shape (like paper or cardboard)

  • No plastic resin involved

How they behave:

  • Break down naturally

  • Work in compost systems

  • Don’t turn into microplastics

Plastics/Bioplastics (NOT allowed)

  • These are still plastics, even if they come from plants.

    Examples:

    • PLA

    • “Compostable plastic”

    • “Biodegradable plastic”

    • Corn-based plastic

    • Sugar-based plastic resin

    How they’re made:

    • Plant sugars are chemically processed

    • Turned into a plastic resin

    • Molded just like normal plastic

    How they behave:

    • Do NOT break down in real-world conditions

    • Break into microplastics

    • Contaminate compost and recycling

    • End up in the ocean looking exactly like plastic
